What Must I Do?
On the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came to indwell the disciples and give them power to minister, Peter preached to those who were present in Jerusalem. At the end of his sermon, Peter was asked “What must we do to be saved?” Peter told them to “Repent and be Baptized in the name of Jesus.” Three thousand people received Christ as Savior and Lord that day. While those words of Peter fell on ears who knew what it meant to Repent, in todays society, those words are not as transparent and clear to the hearer. Paul simplified the message for the Gentiles to whom he preached when he wrote Romans. He used the word “believe,” which is translated in the Amplified Bible to “Adhere to, Trust in and Rely on Christ.” Believing is so much more than a mental ascent.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul wrote, “Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and, in your heart, believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.” Romans 10:9-10 (AMP)
Today, ask yourself – Do I Adhere to, Trust in and Rely on Christ? If so, Praise God, if not, you now know what you need to do to begin a relationship with Christ who saves forevermore.
Remember God Loves you and I Do Too.
