Understanding

What is understanding and how do we get it?  Some would say we get understanding through life experiences and the mistakes and successes we have.  While that is true to an extent, the greatest understanding comes through the study of God’s word.  But how do we understand God’s word?  For the Christian, God provides a teacher – His Holy Spirit.  God’s word requires that we understand with our spirit and not our natural mind.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul wrote, “But the man who isn’t a Christian can’t understand and can’t accept these thoughts from God, which the Holy Spirit teaches us. They sound foolish to him because only those who have the Holy Spirit within them can understand what the Holy Spirit means. Others just can’t take it in.” 1 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)

Today, when you study God’s Word, let the Holy Spirit give you understanding.
