Righteousness

What in the world is righteousness?  We, as Christians often speak in “Christianese.”  We use language that has been used in Christian circles for many centuries. But, do we really know what those words mean?  One of those words is “righteousness.”  My understanding of the word “righteousness” is to be in right standing with God.  Webster defines “righteousness” as acting in accord with divine or moral law,  So, when Jesus was made to be sin for us, that we might be made the “righteousness” of God in Him, Jesus not only took our place; but, He made the way for us to “act in accordance with divine or moral law.  He literally, gave us right standing with God.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul wrote, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”  2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
