Instructions (Part 6)
Instructions (Part 6)
Paul tells us to “Despise not prophesyings.” What is “prophesyings” and why are we to not despise it? Prophesying has two implications – “to reveal or foretell (something, esp a future event) by or as if by divine inspiration and to give instruction in religious subjects.” In the Old Testament, there were Prophets, who spoke the word of God to the Children of Israel so they would know what to do. Today, we have ministers, who preach the word of God, so we will also have direction for our lives. For further instructions about God’s plan for mankind, we need to get into His word and discover His divinely led prophetic words to us.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit Paul wrote, “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings.” 1 Thessalonians 5:14-20 (KJV)
