Instructions (Part 4)
Instructions (Part 4)
In following the steps of Paul’s instructions, we find a path to giving thanks. First we treat others as Christ intended, second we are to always be joyful, and third we are to always pray. When we do those things, then the fourth instruction does not seem to be so difficult. Without the other three actions, the fourth instruction seems counter intuitive. How can we always be thankful no matter what happens? In Romans 8:28, Paul encourages us when he said, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” In His letter to the Thessalonians, Paul did not say give thanks “for” everything; but, “in” everything. We can thank God in all situations because He is working them out for our benefit.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul wrote, “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18 (KJV)
Today, may you find joy in your journey and peace in your spirit through close communion with our God. Give thanks no matter what your circumstances and watch God move in your life.
