A Thief

When a thief comes there is no warning.  Peter likened the coming day of the Lord as that of a thief, when there would be no warning.  As a thief destroys things, Peter also said, everything as we know it, would be destroyed.  If you are holding on to worldly things, consider that (1) you can’t take anything with you when you leave this world and (2) if you  survive until Jesus comes, nothing of this world will be left.  Since nothing in this world is eternal and we don’t know when Jesus is coming, Peter encourages us to live holy and godly lives each day.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Psalmist wrote, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.  The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and every thing done in it will be laid bare.  Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?  You ought to live holy and godly lives”  2 Peter 3:10-11 (NIV)
